Between September 1989 and October 1990, 25 gonococcal strains were isolated from 55 ureteral swabs of patients with clinical diagnosis of acute gonococcal infection. Their sensitivity to penicillin was determined by the method of disc diffusion and plate dilution on agar, and their ability to produce penicillase by the iodometric and nitrogen test The first penicillin-producing gonococcal strain in Slovenia was isolated as early as 1984. In the present study, however, no such strain was recovered, which, according to the author, is attributable to the small number of gonococcal isolates studied.
