Imaging modalities for detection and follow-up include ultrasound, contrast enhanced ultrasound, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Early detection of the hepatocellular carcinoma enables better treatment options for the patient. The prognosis and treatment planning is determined according to the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer classification. Early stage of the disease is treated with curative methods such as surgical resection, liver transplantation and radiofrequency ablation. The intermediate stage is treated with palliative methods like chemoembolization, radioembolization, chemotherapy with sorafenib or the combination of listed methods. In this review article, we present the role of imaging methods in the diagnostic and follow-up of the hepatocellular carcinoma and the role of interventionalradiology methods.
