Apoptosis is a normal physiological event.\u00a0Dysregulation of the genetic programme for apoptosis can trigger pathological events, embryonic\u00a0lethality, changes of postnatal development and\u00a0increased risk of cancer. Therapeutic agents\u00a0affecting the regulation of apoptosis open new\u00a0possibilities of treatment of a number of apoptosis-induced diseases, including cancer. When\u00a0cellular degeneration is a result of a disease\u00a0process, recovery may be obtained by either\u00a0inducing or inhibiting apoptosis.
