These fractures are frequently\u00a0complicated by avascular necrosis of the femoral\u00a0neck due to interruption of the arterial supply to\u00a0the femoral neck. Different types of femoral neck\u00a0fractures and the corresponding treatment are\u00a0described. Special emphasis is put on operative\u00a0treatment of fractures by internal fixation and\u00a0insertion of a hip prosthesis. These two treatment\u00a0modalities are most commonly used at the\u00a0Department of Traumatology, University Medical\u00a0Centre Ljubljana.
