Psychosocial characteristics of 60 secondary school adolescent female suicide attempters \u2028were determined in the present study. We compared \u2028them with 60 secondary school females, representing a normal population. The data collected from the\u2028 histories of the disease were compared by the inquiry \u2028of the control group which answered our questionnaire \u2028specially elaborated for this research. The personal\u2028 characteristics were evaluated by the Freiburg Personal Inquiry. The attempters expressed significantly \u2028higher levels of broken homes and dysfunctional\u2028 interpersonal relations in their families. They were \u2028less likely to describe confiding relationship with their \u2028parents. The loss of contact with their parents was \u2028frequently present. The attempters mostly lived with\u2028 their mothers, a high percentage of them had neither\u2028 brothers nor sisters. Their capability of creating good\u2028 relationships was poor. Their parents were either\u2028 quiet and not participating in parent – girl relationships or too sensitive and dominant. The attempters\u2028 expressed high levels of depression, though comparing them with the control group the levels weren’t\u2028 significantly different. The attempters expressed psychosomatic disturbances, they were impulsive and \u2028with predominantly female personal characteristics. \u2028Most of the attempters expressed high levels of \u2028school difficulties and adjustment problems related\u2028 to their success in school as to the classmates\u2028relationships. Partner relationships as well as social \u2028potentials resulting from choosing a wrong company \u2028were worse. The attempters expressed high levels of \u2028suicidal thoughts, previous history of suicidal attempts and high levels of suicidal behaviour in their\u2028 families. Comparing the life circumstances and stressors in both groups, no differences were detected. The results of our research reflected a pretty heterogenous sample concerning personal characteristics \u2028and psychiatric diagnoses.
