In Slovenia, there are between 140000 and 150000 dogs and about three to four times as many cats. The number of birds, fishes, rodents and other animals kept as pets is a matter of speculation. Undoubtedly, pets bring a positive quality in human life, but on the other hand, they represent a potential source of several infectious diseases which may be transferred to. The authors give a review of some of the commonest pets-related zoonoses.
