In the majority of primary breast cancers, a combination treatment including surgery, irradiation and drug therapy is used. Operative treatment of primary cancer can be either breast-preserving, or radical, i. e. consisting of complete removal of the breast. Axillary lymphadenectomy should invariably be accomplished after each breast-preserving operation. Radiotherapy is only occasionaly used after breast amputation. Systemic treatment of breast cancer patients includes chemotherapy plus tamoxiphene, and is aimed at improving the patient&#8217;s survival rate.
