When suspected, one has to be very careful because a missed injury can lead to tendon retraction, scarring and even flexor contracture of the toe. The paper presents a case of traumatic tendon rupture in a 23-year-old patient. After a walking below-knee cast was removed in order to treat a fracture of his fourth metatarsal bone, the patient noticed that he was unable to extend his left toe. Unfortunately, upon the first examination, an injury of the extensor hallucis longus tendon was missed. An ultrasound scan showed a lesion of the tendon at the site of its insertion onto the distal phalanx of the toe; therefore, surgical treatment was chosen. Because very few such cases have been reported in literature, it was not possible to know before surgery which reconstruction technique would be the best for the patient. An open refixation of the tendon with anchor sutures was performed, along with interphalangeal joint arthrodesis of the hallux.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Extensor hallucis longus tendon injuries are uncommon.
