Pathophysiology of diabetes mellitus
Diabetes mellitus can be explained pathophysiologically as a disorder impairing mechanisms responsible for normoglycemia. In the first part of the paper, entitled “Mechanisms underlying preservation of normoglycemia” these mechanisms are extensively described. In the second part, “Disordered metabolism due to the lack of the effects of insulin and consequent complications” pathophysiology of acute and chronic complications of diabetes mellitus is discussed. The last part “Causes of the lack of the insulin effects” deals with pathophysiology of disorders leading to the lack of insulin effects.
