Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a gastrointestinal disease of unknown etiology, which usually lasts a lifetime. It is characterized by a chronic course with frequent flares and intermediate periods of variable length of remission. Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease are two main forms of IBD. It is still not known whether they are two different diseases or merely represent a different response to numerous inflammatory events.
