The author reports a patient with acute liver and kidney failure diagnosed on his returning from 14-day trip to Brasil, where he had been exposed to various risk factors for tropical diseases. In spite of intensive care provided in an university medical institution, the patient died a few days after admission. The author discusses the differential diagnosis, stresses the role of accurate history and epidemiological data and presents the value of various diagnostic methods.
