Doppler Ultrasound in Gynaecolgy and Obstetrics
Duplex and colour Doppler ultrasound are noninvasive diagnostic methods for identifying and locating, as well as for qualifying and quantifying blood flow within the cardiovascular system. In modern gynecology and obstetrics, both duplex and color Doppler ultrasound methods are indispensable tools for diagnosing various pathological states in pregnancy, as weel as for detecting developmental anomalies of the fetal heart and circulation, and assessing vascularisation of genital tumors. Doppler ultrasound offers a useful technique for morphological and functional analysis of hemodynamic changes in blood vessels. Stenoses, occlusions, dilatations and pathologic vascularisation are most easily located by colour Doppler ultrasound. Measurements of various blood flow indexes allow for qualitative evaluation of hemodynamic alterations.
