Eating disorders

Abstract:

This post is also available in: English Slovenščina (Slovenian)

Modern medicine has been paying increasing attention to eating disorders. The official classification of the diseases deals only with those clinical entities which are related to serious mental and physical problems. Eating disorders encountered in practice range from transient, reactive forms to fixed disease processes affecting all organic systems. Somatic complications of eating disorders are well known to physicians in different areas; yet the psychogenesis of these conditions is often underestimated and the decision for a comprehensive treatment is made all too infrequently. Long lasting eating disorders are very resistant to treatment; therefore, timely diagnosis and preventive measures focusing on healthy life styles, are of utmost importance here.
