Ischaemic renal disease is increasingly recognised as the cause of deteriorating renal function leading to irreversible renal failure. It is of utmost importance to diagnose the disease in its early phase when it can still be effectively treated by surgical revascularisation and percutaneous transluminal angioplasty. The author gives the definition of the disease, describes its clinical manifestations and presents diagnosis and treatment.
