Solitary rectal ulcer syndrome
Solitary rectal ulcer syndrome is a rare chronic condition which became more widely known in the seventies after its histological criteria had been established. In nearly all cases, solitary rectal ulcer syndrome is associated with prolapse of the rectal mucosa. There are two types of this syndrome: solitary rectal syndrome with ulceration and solitary rectal ulcer syndrome without ulceration. The therapy should consist mainly of diet rich in fibre. Regular bowel movements and avoidance of over stretching on defecation are of primary importance.
